England - Lake District to North York Moors

Penrith Castle was used during the 1648 Civil War as headquarters for General John Lambert but after that it was largely dismantled. The historic site was named Castle Park in 1920. You access the castle ruins via a wooden footbridge across what was once the castle moat.
